Biography

Don served as the firm's managing partner from 2005 to 2016. He is closely involved in the development, procurement, maintenance, licensing and enforcement of extensive worldwide intellectual property portfolios for the firm's clients, dealing with subject matter primarily in the mechanical, electrical and computer arts. Don deals with patent, trademark, copyright and design matters around the world and oversees opposition and enforcement proceedings in various countries, particularly the U.S. and in Europe. He also has given numerous presentations on intellectual property issues at various venues.

In his early years Don was actively involved in the firm's litigation practice. Among other things, he co-authored the prevailing briefs in the often cited opinion of the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in KSM Fastening Sys., Inc. v. H.A. Jones Co., Inc., 776 F.2d 1522 (Fed. Cir. 1985), which resolved a conflict among the circuits on the issue of contempt of court.

Don is also an adjunct professor at Case Western Reserve University.

When not at the office, Don enjoys various activities including hiking, biking and golfing at his golf clubs in Cleveland and Southwest Florida.
